SAM's LAWS OF TEAMWORK
There are teams and then there are great teams. What makes a team great? It is the synergy, the oneness of purpose, the desire to make it happen, and the willingness to do what it takes to succeed. So how does this happen? Well, in order to get there, every team member needs to follow four simple laws - Sam's laws of teamwork. These laws became evident to me nearly two years after working with Unilever, helping them build teams that could sell ice cream - something Levers hadn't attempted before. At about that time, it dawned on me that what we were doing was to get people to behave in a particular way - which the four laws demonstrate clearly.
CAN THE OBAMA BAILOUT PLAN WORK ?
Feb 21, 2009

President Obama is serious about pulling America out of its present misery. He has assembled a good team. Yet, he has to navigate through unchartered territory, where no administration has ventured to date. Can the plan work?

TREATING CUSTOMERS DIFFERENTLY

By treating customers differently, you meet their specific expectations and needs. This raises customer satisfaction, strengthens the emotional bonds, and eventually leads to greater and more sustainable profits. This clip describes how Charles Schwab makes this happen in a cost effective manner.

A CRISIS OF LEADERSHIP
It is hard to believe that so many CEOs had to go within a year at the turn of the century. The corporate world is in the same boat today. What does it say about our ability to develop leadership? And what does it say about the ability of corporate boards to govern and build lasting institutions?

There are several reasons for this bankruptcy in leadership. Parents are not paying enough attention to the things that matter while bringing up their children. Children are not being taught about responsibility in schools. Business schools teach tons of macho logic, while ignoring the more fundamental matters of ethical behavior, and building lasting institutions.

We lionize despicable behavior today. So many of our sporting heroes use banned drugs to enhance performance. They are the sporting equivalent of Viagra. There is hardly any punishment for such behavior. Wall Street executives are no different. So many of them live the high life, and mock at main street. For far too long have we been brought up on a diet whose label reads GREED IS GREAT!

It is time to revisit leadership as taught and practiced by Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Gandhi, Mandela, and the like. it is time to review our paradigm of success.

WHAT CAUSED THE CURRENT CRISIS ?

The world is spinning through a dangerous downward spiral. We are caught up in a financial crisis of epic proportions. Comparisons with the great depression take place every hour. Regardless of whether or not it is bigger than the great depression, we need to give serious thought to the possible reasons behind it.

LEARNING FROM CUSTOMERS
Who can teach us about our customers? Our customers, who else? Listen to the way Komatsu understood what its prospective American customers needed, and figured how to sell to them.

Spend a day in the life of your customer to learn what they need, and how best you can satisfy those needs. Great companies listen to their customers, they put customers in the center of their universe, and build processes around them. Learn how your customers measure success, and then figure out a way to add to that value proposition.

EASE OF DOING BUSINESS
When you make it easy for your customer to do business with you, you make your customer want to do business with you more often. Ease and convenience are great business enablers. This increases the potential for lasting profits.

In this clip, you will hear how Virgin One makes it easy to for customers to do business.
